We are often asked, what are the steps involved in transferring my site to Impacthosting, and how can I minimize any
potential downtime to my site and email?
1. As a first step, you'll want to sign up for a hosting Plan with us to obtain your account access information. Once you have signed up your account
will be provisioned and an activation email will be sent to you which includes usage instructions and access information.
2. The next step is to upload your site files to our web servers using
the account access information provided in the activation email. Once the site is uploaded you can view it via the temporary url given in the activation email to ensure it is functioning as expected. You can
also create needed mailboxes by using the email control panel as discussed in the activation email.
3. Now that your site is loaded and mailboxes created, go to your domain registrar (Network
Solutions, GoDaddy, Register.com, etc.) and update your ``name server" information as outlined in our activation email. You will basically log in to a domain management feature and delete the DNS assigned to
your domain and add our DNS information. This change of information will take approximately 24-48 hours to propagate and change throughout the web.
4. After the domain has completed
transitioning to Impacthosting you can cancel the hosting account at your previous host as everything should now be coming to our servers.
